“Whenever New Horizon gets mentioned among those who used to attend Rhona is one of the first names to pop up and every one always said how you really took your role so seriously and dedicated your life to helping young people” – A young woman supported by Rhona

London Councils announced this week that the city spends an eyewatering £90 million a month on temporary accommodation alone, an increase of 40% since this time last year. We struggle to get our heads around this figure although it underscores the dire need for systemic change in the housing market. Let’s hope the next Government treat this as the crisis it is and make both short and long-term commitments to redress the situation. #PlanForThe136k Read more here: https://buff.ly/48w5Nne

Good news: the Government finally responded to our petition with over 12,000 signatures!Bad news: in the time it took to respond, 300 young people have come to our day centre and thousands of young people have been to their council for help with homelessness. And the response totally misses the point; they don`t agree that we need a strategy to end youth homelessness with specific solutions for young people. Find out the THREE reasons why #PlanForThe136k collective are not impressed ⏩⏩This makes it even more important to reach 100,00 signatures. Help us by signing and sharing the link in our bio.

"`Hey, how are you doing?` Time to Talk Day is a reminder to open up about mental health and the magic that happens when we just talk. A recent survey by YoungMinds shows that 67% of young people want mental health support without going to their GP but 53% don`t know where else to turn. That`s where us adults come in. It`s time to show how simple it is to have a chat when someone`s struggling. We need to be advocates for talking openly about mental health. Let`s show that it`s okay to talk and listen without judgment. Our openness can make a world of difference, breaking down walls and encouraging those who need help to speak up. Taking a cue from psychologist Carl Jung, our own struggles give us a special kind of empathy and patience. Whether we`re healers or not, our experiences make us better listeners and supporters. It`s all about being aware of our own stories, and when we share, it helps others heal too. For real conversations about mental health, we`ve got to know ourselves. Facing our own pain and challenges makes us more understanding and compassionate. By embracing our vulnerabilities, we create a space where everyone`s struggles are met with empathy and support. Let`s use Time to Talk Day to get real about mental health. The YoungMinds survey shows there`s work to be done, especially for young people. By being open and chatting, we can help create a world where mental health talk isn`t just accepted – it`s celebrated. Embrace the power of conversation, rooted in self-awareness, and let`s make the world a more understanding and caring place." - By Charly Dale, Head of HealthPictured is Rhona, our longest serving member of staff who retired this week! Congratulations and thank you for making time to talk to so many young people over the years - giving them invaluable advice, support and guidance 💙
