Celebrating food on World Homeless Day with our exclusive New Horizon Cookbook!

Posted on: 10 October 2025

On World Homelessness Day 2025, the world has never been more volatile and the numbers of young people rough sleeping or experiencing homelessness in London have never been so high. This week the number of people who died whilst homeless was announced, 9% more than last year.

Whilst this heart-breaking news is all around us, at New Horizon we decided for World Homeless Day, as part of our Black History Month celebrations, we would do something a bit different.

We want to bring you joy, warmth and community by celebrating the amazing cultures and heritages of the young people and staff at New Horizon. What better way than through food?!

Food at New Horizon is central to our community; it is how everyone comes together every day at lunch time, or our fun monthly Supper Clubs. We love gathering around the big table in the centre of our drop-in to connect over a warm meal.

We are proud to present to you our New Horizon Youth Centre Cookbook.

We invite you to gather with your own friends, family and loved ones to share beautiful meals from our young people.

This limited edition cookbook is packed full of incredible recipes shared by our young people and staff from all around the world. Want to try doro wat from Ethiopia or koshari from Egypt? Want to have a go at making Sudanese bread or upside-down apple cake? If you answered yes, our beautiful new cookbook is for you!

Each recipe has been shared with love and memories of family and homelands, and perfect for you to make at home.
