It’s been a year since we put in our joint application with Network Homes for the London Homelessness Awards, which resulted in us winning 1st prize for our Project Vista accommodation initiative.
Project Vista provides affordable rooms for homeless young people in Network Homes flats alongside targeted lifeskills, training and employment support from NHYC’s dedicated teams. The innovative partnership addresses some of the major barriers to housing for under 21s while helping them prepare to live independently, a fact which was clearly recognised by the LHA panel as selected it as the winner in
Network Homes generously donated their share of the £30,000 prize money, which has gone into continuing the work we do to support homeless young people across London. The coverage of the award resulted in increased awareness of this new approach to tackling the youth homelessness crisis, and we have just opened a second accommodation project with another housing association. This caters for young people who need more mental health and emotional support in addition to the assistance provided as part of Project Vista.
Overall applying for the LHA Awards has been hugely beneficial to us not only in terms of the prize money and the publicity for Project Vista, but also as an endorsement of the risk Network Homes and NHYC took in pioneering a new way of tackling the effects of the housing crisis on young people.
The deadline for this year’s London Homelessness Awards is 15th May and we would enthusiastically recommend applying to any other organisations working in the field of homelessness!
