International Women’s Day was created to highlight the fact that women still suffer disproportionately from inequality, violence, poverty and oppression all over the world.
Many of the young women we support have experienced discrimination or abuse specifically because of their gender, which is one of the reasons why we place such importance on celebrating International Women’s Day.
This year’s event saw our youth work team pull out all the stops, with self-defence classes, yoga, hair and make-up workshops, film screenings, a photobooth and more, all aimed at showing young women we work with how amazing we think they are. Their strength in overcoming the challenging circumstances of homelessness is truly inspiring.
