It's not every day a full-size orchestra turns up at the centre - but last Thursday that's exactly what happened!
Street Orchestra London are on a mission to bring classical music to people who otherwise wouldn't get to hear it, so we jumped at the chance to have them play to our young people, many of whom had never heard a live orchestra before.
After successfully solving the conundrum of how to squeeze nearly 40 musicians and their instruments into the barn, the orchestra let rip with a dizzying mix of specially composed contemporary pieces, classical, reworked pop and even hip-hop tunes. Young people sang along, danced in their chairs, and even got up to conduct at one point. Nobody was quite brave enough to take on the rap challenge on the last piece though!
A huge thank you to Street Orchestra London for their visit, young people commented that "I was in bad mood, but they made me smile!" and that the performance had been "amazing". We hope they'll come back next year.
